Grigna

Perhaps not everyone knows that Grigna is not only a territory of great mountaineering feats, but from 40 years, it is also an object of study and exploration by many cavers. The Grignone is one of the largest Italian karst basins : in the limestone, vast white expanses with flashes of green, you can find hundreds of caves, with a prevalent vertical development, “ all to be explored”. In particular, during the past 25 years, the knowledge of the cavities has been increasing and even today most of them are still under exploration. “W the women”, with its 1200 meters deep, is currently the deepest cavity present in the territory of Grignone and probably one of the most well –known by the hikers, who can meet it easily because its entrance is on the side of the path that leads to the summit of Grigna. To go into the caves you must have specific skills, that you can obtain attending a course of speleology organized by one of the speleological group on the territory.

“InGrigna!” Project

The project INGRIGNA has as its own objective the study and the knowledge of the Grigna karst subsurface. The exploration, the documentation, the surveying, the research and the review of the entrances are the main activities of the people who take part in this project. Many cavers, who belong to other national associations and, in the recent years, also from foreign groups,take part in these activities; so we have a traversal speleology, which exceeds the logic of the single group and that is the basis of the successes and the achievements obtained till nowadays. Since 2003 the Summer camp is organized annually during the month of August. This is the most important moment of activities and the refuge Bogani is an important base as storage of materials and as well as overnight and dinner. Cavers can rely on the availability and support of Enrico and Mariangela before and after the effort of the caving (even when you exit the cave at night!). There are no springs or wells in the northern Grigna, due to its calcareous shape. The only available water in the refuge has a meteoric origin and it is not drinking. In the shelter you can buy battle of water and other drinks, but you cannot have a shower due to the lack of water. The available water in the bathroom is not drinking.

The paths that leads to the refuge and in general all the paths of the northern Grigna, are not suitable for mountain biking. Although not expressly forbidden by any regulation, the use of mountain bikes is not recommended unless you have a deep knowledge of the paths.

Due to the location and to the difficulties to reach it, the refuge it is not recommended for disable people; in fact it is not suitable to accommodate them, mainly due to a structure with a lot of architectural barriers.

In the refuge you cannot pay with credit cards or debit cards, the only methods of payments accepted are:
- Bank transfer in advance
- Cash

The area of refuge is covered by the most important mobile operators, although inside the refuge the cover is not always optimal in every location; but outside you can surf in internet using 2G and 3G network.
